The Meanings Of KHALIF UZAYR (خليف عزير)

خليف (successor/pengganti)

Khalif (pronounced Khaleef) means successor. A Khalif is a leader of the Muslim Ummah (nation/peoples). After Prophet Muhammed (SAW) died there came after him numerous khalifs (successors) who were called Khalifs (Khaleefs).

The famous first four Khalifs are:

1 - Abu Bakr bin Abu Qahafa (RA)

2 - Umar bin al-Khataab (RA)

3 - Uthman bin Afaan (RA)

4 - Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS)

They are titled Al Khulafa' ar-Rashideen - The Rightly-guided Leaders.

Subsequent leaders were also called Khalifs as they had rulership of the whole Islamic Ummah (nation/peoples). Each khalif was titled 'Ameer al-Mu'mineen' (Commander of the Faithful) even though this title was given to Imam Ali by the Prophet exclusively. The Khilafah system ended with the end of the Ottman empire. There can be no more Khalifate until a new Islamic empire is re-born.

Is it permissible to use the name ‘Uzayr/Uzair?

I have 7 months old son and we  keep his name "UZAIR". somebody told us it is Jues name but i heard that it is in the quaran

Praise be to Allaah. ‘Uzayr is a Jewish name but it is mentioned in the Qur’aan in the context of condemning the Jews, when Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):“And the Jews say: ‘Uzayr (Ezra) is the son of Allaah, and the Christians say: Messiah is the son of Allaah. That is their saying with their mouths…” [al-Tawbah 9:30] Al-Haafiz ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Bidaayah wa’l-Nihaayah: “The well known view is that ‘Uzayr was one of the Prophets of the Children of Israel.” On this basis there is nothing wrong with calling him ‘Uzayr, so long as there is no inclination of the heart towards the Jews, and so long as one is not influenced by them because of being their neighbour. The scholarly differences as to whether ‘Uzayr was actually a Prophet or not are well known.

Translation: 

Segala puji kepada Allah.

'Uzayr adalah nama Yahudi tetapi ia disebut di dalam Al-Quran dalam konteks mengutuk Yahudi, apabila Allah berkata (yang bermaksud):

"Dan orang-orang Yahudi berkata: 'Uzayr (Ezra) anak Allah, dan orang Nasrani berkata: Al-Masih ialah anak Allah. Itu adalah ucapan mereka dengan mulut mereka ... "[al-Tawbah 9:30]

Al-Hafiz ibn Katheer (mungkin Allah telah memberi rahmat kepadanya) berkata dalam al-Bidaayah wa'l-Nihaayah: 

"Pandangan yang terkenal bahawa 'Uzayr adalah salah satu daripada Nabi-nabi Bani Israel." 

Atas dasar ini tidak terdapat apa-apa yang salah dengan memanggilnya Uzayr, selagi tidak ada kecondongan hati terhadap orang-orang Yahudi, dan selagi sebagai salah satu tidak dipengaruhi oleh mereka kerana menjadi jiran mereka. Perbezaan ilmiah sama ada 'Uzayr adalah sebenarnya Nabi atau tidak diketahui.
